Getting Your Vehicle Ready for Fall

October is officially here, which means we will soon be seeing falling leaves, football season, and Halloween. The change in season also means a change in driving conditions, as we will temperatures drop, more rain, ice on the roads, and possibly even a little snow. We must prepare our vehicle for these weather conditions, as the transition from summer to fall to winter can take a toll on our vehicle's overall health.

Autumn maintenance focuses on your vehicle's three essential components: wiper blades, fluids, and tire tread and balance. It is easy to forget about your windshield wipers -- you switch them when it starts to rain, but other than that, it is not common to think about your windshield wipers needing attention. However, your windshield wipers are imperative to the overall health and safety of your vehicle.

Imagine you driving in the rain, and you reach to turn on your windshield wipers. To your dismay, they don't turn on. Your ability to see what is in front of you is already diminished. Fortunately, the team at Nordgren Automotive is here to make sure this situation doesn't happen. If your windshield wipers are worn or damaged, we can easily replace them, and we can have you back on the road in no time.

The next item on the fall maintenance to-do list is your fluids. When the temperatures start to cool, it is the perfect opportunity to bring your vehicle to our facility for an inspection. As the temperatures drop, your engine's fluids become thicker, causing them to move slower through your engine. An essential fluid to keep in mind is your coolant -- your coolant isn't just coolant, but water. Because we experience ranges in temperature, we have to keep an eye on the coolant ratio to water. The ratio needs to be higher in fall and winter, compared to summertime.

As we get into the colder months, your tires are easily one of your vehicle's most important components, especially with the risk of icy roads in the upcoming months. Our technicians will keep a close eye on your tread depth, making sure it is right. Don't worry if your tires have already started to deflate a little as we head into October -- the air pressure will drop about 1 pound per square inch for every 10 degrees the temperature outside drops.

The team at Nordgren Automotive is here to make sure your vehicle is ready to go for fall, as we will complete a thorough inspection, ensuring each component of your vehicle is performing in tip-top shape. Schedule your visit online or call the Nordgren Automotive team at (763) 703-1365.
